Description of the department

The Communications Department is an essential pillar of MSF Korea. Its primary objective is to raise the visibility of MSF and its medical humanitarian work in Korea. The department proactively supports the Fundraising, Field Human Resources, and External Relations departments. Each member of the Communications team ensures the development and delivery of coherent and clear public messages linked to MSF’s field activities and humanitarian principles. Strategies include communicating through multiple channels of mass and social media, public events, campaigns, and publications, produced in Korean.

Purpose of the position

Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Digital Communications Officer will develop and implement MSF Korea’s overall digital presence and communications on web, mobile, social media, and other digital platforms, in order to increase MSF’s visibility, acceptance, and leverage opportunities among the Korean public and targeted audiences, as well as expand and engage MSF Korea’s community of supporters. S/he works in close collaboration with other staff in MSF Korea, including the Digital Fundraising Officer and Content Editor.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities 

DIGITAL PLATFORMS

• Oversee and maintain all MSF Korea digital platforms – web, mobile, social media/SNS, other – in collaboration with Digital Fundraising Officer and other staff
• Lead the architecture, functionality, maintenance, and improvement of the MSF Korea website and mobile site (www.msf.or.kr), including developing new digital landing pages when needed
• Coordinate MSF Korea’s social media strategy, in collaboration with Digital Fundraising Officer
• Monitor digital traffic and analytics, track metrics, and prepare analytics reports and recommendations. Provide qualitative analysis to optimize digital channels and be able to translate data into clear, specific recommendations for non-IT/digital persons.
• Constantly increase SNS followship
• Monitor online MSF mentions, discussions, and developments, and triage any digital communications emergencies
• Fix bugs and ensure security of MSF Korea’s digital platforms and information
• Maintain functionality and support of Content Management System (CMS), including optimizing content updates and site administration (eg, user management, permissions, clean URLs)
• Coordinate projects, resources, and contracts with external digital agencies or consultants (eg, developers, designers, vendors, server/hosting companies, etc)
• Develop and monitor digital budget(s)
• Support the digital needs of all MSF Korea departments
• Follow latest digital trends and establish/maintain relationships with digital companies, influencers, and innovators in Korea
 

DIGITAL CONTENT

• In close collaboration with Content Editor and other staff, prepare and publish all digital content on MSF Korea’s digital platforms
• Select and optimize multimedia (photos, video, audio, graphics) for different digital channels
• Develop and lead digital campaigns for awareness raising and advocacy
• Coordinate online/digital advertising, in coordination with other departments (FR, FHR, etc)

QUALITY CONTROL 

• Check and safeguard that the messages and tone of digitally communicated content are correct and in line with MSF’s core principles, communications policies, editorial style, institutional identity, and field operational priorities

Qualifications & requirements

Essential Skills and Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience in digital communications, including web, mobile, and social media
• Extremely strong computer literacy
• Knowledge and experience in website maintenance
• Ability to work independently and handle a large volume of work under tight deadlines
• Ability to react quickly and efficiently, including under time, public, and internal pressure
• Ability to carry out projects from conceptual stages to launch in time-bound fashion
• Outstanding time management and organizational skills, with attention to detail
• Strong interpersonal skills, works well within a diverse team, and has a creative, proactive, and flexible personality
• Genuine commitment to MSF’s humanitarian principles
• English and Korean language fluency
 

Desirable Skills

• Strong visual sense and ability to contribute to digital design and user interface
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite,HTML, DAM, Javascript/ Flash/ PHP/ MySQL/ PostgreSQL; Mobile First Design and Responsive Web Design; Google Analytics; Drupal CMS; server hosting
• Experience in digital content development, editing, and translation
• Experience working with a NGO or non-profit organization
• Knowledge and interest in humanitarian issues and international affairs
• Possible domestic or international travel
