DESCRIPTION OF THE DEPARTMENT
The primary objective of the Communications department is to raise the visibility of MSF’s international medical humanitarian work and MSF’s profile in South Korea. The Communications team ensures the development and delivery of coherent and clear public messages linked to MSF’s field activities and the humanitarian principles that underpin them. Strategies to raise the visibility and acceptance of MSF include communicating through multiple channels of mass media and social media, digital channels, print and digital publications, and public events and campaigns, produced in Korean or translated from English to Korean.
DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION
Under the direction of the Communications Manager, the Translator/Content Editor is responsible for ensuring high quality translation and Korean-language communication products from MSF Korea. The position will ensure accurate and reliable translation while preserving the MSF tone of voice and style. As part of the Communications department’s content team, the Translator/Content Editor will also support the content development process through editorial tasks necessary to production of publications. The position will also provide translation and editorial support as needed to other departments in the MSF Korea office.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. TRANSLATION
- Translate text from source documents of varying subject matter (English-Korean) and support the review process.
- Manage translation projects for the Communications department and source external professional translators when needed.
- Manage and maintain a pool of external professional translators and interpreters for use by the office.
- Proofread and edit final translated content for posting on MSFK website, SNS and related communication publications.
- Regularly update the MSF Korea translation glossary and terminology database and carry out glossary/terminology research using various online tools and indexes.
- Serve as translation focal point and provide guidance on phraseology to find the correct translation.
- If a professional interpreter or staff is unavailable, serve as backup interpreter for events, meetings, talks, and other needs (English to Korean, Korean to English).
2. CONTENT DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT
- Assist in review of Korean-language content for publications, web/digital platforms, multimedia, and events or campaign collateral to ensure accuracy and consistency of MSF terminology, style and tone of voice.
- Support research and fact checking for articles.
- Edit copy, restructure articles, and rewrite text as required.
- Write Korean-language copy for MSF Korea website, SNS and other media as needed.
- Support content curation and help develop and implement the weekly content calendar.
- Participate and contribute at content meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- At least 3 years’ work experience in professional translation (English-Korean) and/or content development and publication, preferably for an international organization
- Commitment to the medical humanitarian principles of MSF and genuine interest in communicating about MSF’s values and activities; please see https://msf.or.kr/office-culture for MSF Korea’s values
- Excellent writing skills in Korean – knowledge of grammar and style; write, edit and proofread well
- Experience in managing translation projects and liaising with in-house staff and external vendors throughout the project stages
- Familiarity with planning, organizing and executing content creation and distribution
- Collaborative and a team player; experience working in multidisciplinary teams on integrated projects preferred
- Proactive, takes initiative and gets things done
- Detail-oriented and accustomed to working with deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills, curious, adaptable and flexible
- Comfortable working for a global organization and with colleagues of different nationalities and across different time zones
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Office 365
- Bachelor’s degree in translation, communications, journalism or literature, and/or certification in translation (English-Korean)
- Native level Korean language ability
- Proficient English language ability (reading, speaking, listening, writing)

- Interpretation skills
- Copywriting experience
- Book and other long-form text translations
- Experience in managing blogs and SNS channels (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
