DESCRIPTION OF THE DEPARTMENT

The primary objective of the Communications department is to raise the visibility of MSF’s medical humanitarian work and MSF’s profile in South Korea. The Communications team will ensure the development and delivery of coherent and clear public messages linked to MSF’s field activities and the humanitarian principles that underpin them. Strategies to raise the visibility and acceptance of MSF include communicating through multiple channels of mass and social media, digital channels, print and digital publications, and public events and campaigns, produced in Korean or translated from English to Korean.

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Public Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the development and execution of external events, campaigns, and other public-facing activities in order to increase public awareness of MSF Korea and engagement with Korean society. The position is responsible for developing communication materials in support of these initiatives. The Public Engagement Coordinator coordinates with other departments on their external communications/engagement activities as needed. 

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EVENT & CAMPAIGN MANAGEMENT

  • Lead planning and execution of MSF Korea offline and online events/campaigns, including the annual film festival; coordinate and collaborate with Communications team and other departments as required for implementation. 
  • Act as the focal point on event management; responsibilities include but not limited to venue/platform selection, vendor management, agenda development and flow, registration, event staffing, and on-site event management.
  • Manage production of content and communications materials for events/campaigns and liaise with Communications team and vendors on the production process.
  • Serve as moderator at relevant events and activities as needed.
  • Develop promotion plans and coordinate with Communications team on channels (media, social media, advertisements).
  • Monitor and manage events budget.
  • Evaluate and analyze outcomes, and report and present results.

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT 

  • Manage public speaking engagements and follow up on lecture requests from schools and organizations; identify spokesperson and support presentation preparation – key messaging, fact-checking, review, photo curation, etc.
  • Manage public engagement projects and activities as they relate to MSF Korea’s communication plan, including managing online community groups.
  • Manage and follow up on requests from individuals or organizations for collaboration on public engagement projects.
  • Support content curation for media and social media channels and contribute story ideas at content meetings.

CONTENT AND BRANDING

  • Ensure MSF brand, messages and tone of all public engagement activities is clear and consistent in line with MSF’s core principles, communications policies, editorial style, institutional identity and field operational priorities.
  • Support review of Korean-language content for publications, web/digital platforms, multimedia, and events or campaign collateral to ensure accuracy and consistency of MSF terminology, style and tone of voice. 
  • Support copy writing and develop copy pertaining to public engagement projects for MSF Korea website, SNS and other media as needed. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL SKILLS 

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in public communications/engagement/advocacy, event or campaign management at an international NGO or NPO, or PR and marketing in the private sector
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, and/or certification in project management.
  • Commitment to the medical humanitarian principles of MSF and genuine interest in communicating about MSF’s values and activities; please see https://msf.or.kr/office-culture for MSF Korea’s values
  • Experience in managing large-scale public events and programs and budgets
  • Excellent writing skills in Korean – knowledge of grammar and style; write, edit and proofread well
  • Creative and familiar with content development process
  • Collaborative and a team player; experience working in multidisciplinary teams on integrated projects preferred
  • Proactive, takes initiative and gets things done
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple projects and working with deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills, adaptable and flexible
  • Comfortable working for a global organization and with colleagues of different nationalities and across different time zones
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Office 365 
  • Native level Korean language ability
  • Proficient English language ability (reading, speaking, listening, writing)
  • Available to work on evenings and weekends, as needed

DESIREABLE SKILLS

  • Experience managing volunteer programs
  • Knowledge and interest in humanitarian issues and international affairs
  • Experience managing blogs and SNS channels (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
