<PURPOSE OF THE POSITION>

Under the supervision of Philanthropy Manager-HNWI and Philanthropy Manager-Corporate, the Philanthropy Stewardship & Cultivation Officer (PSCO) supports the growth and further development of philanthropy-High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) and philanthropy-corporate fundraising and partnership programs by providing deep background on high-quality prospects, supporting implementation of stewardship and cultivation for existing major and corporate donors. PSCO evaluates a prospect's ability to give (donor’s capacity), their warmth toward the organization (affinity) and propensity while analyzing data in MSFK donor database. On top of that, this role supports implementation of a carefully crafted and personalized donor retention program to maximize the donor lifetime value of existing major and corporate donors. PSCO supports to create and develop year-round appeal schedules, ensures that the annual correspondence plan is well managed in time according to the philanthropy annual activities plans.

  1. Using a broad spectrum of sources, the PSCO researches, organizes, and evaluates a prospect’s financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests, and connection to MSF Korea,
  2. Produces in-depth, well-written reports on prospects based on a combination of data from MSFK donor database, open source external database, and other markers of high quality donors,
  3. Supports new research techniques as they arise, striving to design the ultimate prospect research methodology,
  4. Works closely with the Donor Development team to support to design and plan an effective donor retention and communication for existing major and corporate donors under the supervision of 2 philanthropy managers,
  5. Assist the 2 Philanthropy managers and MSFK stakeholders to contribute to the strategies of philanthropy(HNWI) and corporate partnerships and effective donor stewardship programs,
  6. Provides general support to the Philanthropy Manager – High Net Worth Individuals and Philanthropy Manager – Corporate Fundraising and Partnership, and support additional projects when needed.

 

<MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES>

1. Analyses and Planning

  • Under the guidance and supervision of the line manager, PSCO investigates, analyzes, and synthesizes large quantities of data into a user-friendly and concise format for the use of Philanthropy(HNWI) based on the approved annual plan,
  • Assists to develop and implement an effective major gift donor stewardship program and corporate donor stewardship program in accordance with the approved annual plan of action,
  • In collaboration with other team members in Fundraising, supports implementation of annual promotional plan for philanthropy program, such as legacy giving promotion through DRTV, on MSFK website and public space,
  • Support to identify new opportunities by analyzing MSFK donor database prospects potential and provides analyses and data needed for philanthropy income projections,
  • According to the annual plan of action and under the supervision of 2 managers, support planning year-round appeal schedule for philanthropy(HNWI) and corporate segments.

 

2. Philanthropy Development and Stewardship

  • Support implementing approved annual philanthropy events programs, such as major donor event, donation ceremonies, mapathon, hospital to hospital, etc., for both HNWI and corporate partnerships,
  • Prepares and creates supporting documents and marketing materials for the Philanthropy, which shows donors evidence why donating to MSFK and positively affect their causes for donation,
  • Provides support for preparing content and drafting the appeal letters, emergency appeals and customized donor retention and communication to be used and tailored to the donors recruited by Philanthropy Manager – HNWI, and for donor communications to Philanthropy Manager – Corporate,
  • Ensures the timely implementation of annual correspondence plan in order to follow up philanthropy annual activities plan (such as thank you letters, birthday’ s cards, corporate sign boards etc.),
  • Assists to develop diverse tools for increasing loyalty of major gifts and high net worth/profile donors,
  • Ensures the major gift donor's history of giving and personal information are filed, up to date and protected according to MSFK and legal standards.
  • Support legacy giving under the supervision of Philanthropy HNWI Manager
  • Works with Corporate fundraising manager to manage the annual Corporate donor list.

 

3. Prospect Research
Creates prospect donors database by fact-finding and analyzing information from the MSFK donor database, that involves analyzing factors that predict a donor’s ability and enthusiasm to give (middle donors segment), while using publicly available sources and helpful market data,
Prepares and update research profiles on current and prospective donors, allowing to make more targeted approaches at the appropriate level,
Develops and manages a prospect pipeline, identifying potential donors to ensure the major gift program continues to grow,
Researches new corporate prospects in targeted industries based on corporate partnership strategy,
Assists with other prospect research projects as required,

 

4. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Provides a regular report on the performance of philanthropy(HNWI) and corporate partnerships activities to the 2 philanthropy managers ensuring donor data and records up-to-date in the CRM,
  • Provides regular report for an earmark, emergency and in-kind donations,
  • Monitors up-to-date philanthropy(HNWI) and corporate partnerships best practices both in MSF movement and in Korea, and provides periodic reports on the best practices,
  • Collects market information about donor’s requirements, habits and trends and provides feedback and report to the 2 philanthropy managers.

5. Departmental and Other

  • As an active member, participates in MSF relevant Working Group and attends the relevant working group meeting abroad when approved by Philanthropy Manager-HNWI and/or Fundraising Director,
  • Provide constructive input to department related activities (e.g. team meetings, strategic planning, cross-departmental support activities),
  • Willingness to adjust work schedule to suit the needs of the Fundraising responsibilities. This may include working flexible hours and providing support to other roles when required (training, MSFK events, evening teleconferences with related platforms),
  • Support such other activities as may be required and approved by the Philanthropy manager - HNWI and Philanthropy Manager – Corporate Fundraising and Partnership.

 

<QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS>

1. Essential skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree,
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in NGO and or corporation,
  • Strong commitment to MSF’s humanitarian aid work,
  • Experience in research, market monitoring/benchmarking,
  • Presentation skills,
  • Written and verbal communication skills – ability for coherent interpretation of data and information,
  • Ability to secure project and organization information and create and write effective offers, proposals and asks,
  • Good understanding of Korean culture and NGO market,
  • Analytical skills, problem-solving, focus on detail,
  • Ability and diligence to search for information, new opportunities,
  • Good time management skills and ability to deliver the deadlines,
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team,
  • Fluent in both English and Korean,

 

2. Desirable skills and experience

  • Knowledge of MSF and its work,
  • Experience in strategic development planning and fundraising databases,
  • Proficiently work with databases,
  • Experience and/or understanding of Fundraising as a discipline.
